Success Story

When Gretchen was brought to Sonoma Humane Society as a stray, her former owners chose not to redeem her. This precious, shy and uncertain poodle mix had severe dental disease and an awkward gait due to loose kneecaps, but we knew right away her future would be bright. After medical treatment and lots of cuddles with volunteers, this sweetie was able to walk right up and charm her way into a quiet forever home with a caring and committed family. We are proud that the support of community members made this the place where Gretchen could find safe haven, where she could recover her spirit, and where she could find her way to a good home. On behalf of the animals in our care and the many more arriving now, your contribution is truly appreciated. Found wandering the streets of Windsor with a matted coat and other indications of illness, today Dr. Seuss lives happily with a Sonoma Humane Society volunteer Fospice parent. As a senior cat now diagnosed with diabetes, Dr. Seuss benefits from medical treatment through the Fospice program as do others who have similar life-limiting conditions that make them less likely to find a home. The support of our community (not national underwriters) makes it possible for us to find the right home for animals with special needs -- and for the hundreds of cuddly puppies and kittens who are quickly adopted each year. Today, things have gotten a lot better for Dr. Seuss and the thousands of others who come through our doors at our centers in Healdsburg and Santa Rosa.
