Success Story

IIt was a sunny summer morning. All was quiet until a car drove past a parking lot and threw out a small white Maltese mix. She scurried under a parked car for refuge. Luckily there was witness to this horrible act and she was quickly picked up and brought to the San Antonio Humane Society. In addition to having been thrown from a moving car; she was also suffering from malnourishment, anemia, and neglect.

Our staff went to work immediately to determine the extent of Tipsy's injuries and to ease her pain. After being examined by our Veterinarian, Tipsy received something she had been in need of for a long time, a nice warm bath! She was given a flea bath and then lovingly groomed for more than an hour and a half to help comb the hundreds of fleas from her matted fur. That evening Tipsy also enjoyed something she probably hadn't had in some time, a healthy meal and plenty of fresh water. With just the basics, Tipsy started to look less and less like an abandoned dog and more like a sweet and loving companion.

The San Antonio Humane Society gave Tipsy everything she needed to heal and we did it with love. Her gentle nature not only won the hearts of staff and volunteers but she also became a star on our website, Facebook page and was even featured on the local news! It took time for Tipsy to heal, but after a couple of weeks, she was ready for adoption. She is now in a loving home and her new family says "She has really come a LONG way and is the loving, playful dog I knew she would be. I just love her to death and I'm thrilled that she is a part of my family. Tipsy is resting easily today in her new home thanks to donors like you!
